"A smooth and fresh vintage, showcasing the Mansois grape variety."

"The label says it all, and you won't be disappointed. This Fer Servadou has all the qualities of an easy-drinking wine to enjoy with friends, but without lacking in character. Adorned with an attractive garnet color, it offers a superb, complex nose, reflecting the great maturity of the harvest, with sustained, indulgent aromas of candied black fruits and spices against a mineral backdrop. The palate is round, silky, fleshy and intensely fragrant. An eloquent and devilishly charming wine." (Le Guide Hachette 2025).

Wine rated (2026 guide) 89/100

Rated estate (2025 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

With a committed, ethical, and responsible approach, Lionel Osmin created this eponymous haute couture wine merchant with the idea of breaking free from appellations to better highlight the grape variety and offer a simple and delicious interpretation of wines. Based in Pau, the company produces a varied range of around thirty cuvées, as well as a few Armagnacs. It is responsible for marketing Clos Joliette, a jewel of Jurançon, and the wines of the Berthoumieu estate. The range, crafted by Damiens Sartori, the key figure in winemaking, offers some very fine wines at all price points.

About the estate:

The son of a jeweler from Béarn, Lionel Osmin became an agricultural engineer and in 2010 founded a trading company specializing in wines from the southwestern region of France, from Irouléguy to Bergerac and Madiran to Marcillac. Oenologist Damiens Sartori is in charge of vinification for this extensive range.

Wine rating (2024 guide) 90/100 (Outstanding wine)

About wine:

Fer de Soif 2023 reveals a slightly leafy and fragrant bouquet of blackcurrant, violet, licorice, spices, and blackberries. Moderately heavy and dense, it is round and rich, complemented by structured tannins and ending with a long finish that is slightly rustic but elegantly leafy. It is perfect to accompany a Côte de Boeuf or T-bone steak.

About the estate:

While he knows how to make wines from grapes grown elsewhere, Lionel Osmin is at his best when working with local produce, producing precise, refined terroir-driven wines. The Pau-based wine merchant and winegrower also offers a range of single-varietal wines: indigenous varieties, free from appellation restrictions, such as Prunelard, Abouriou, and Mauzac. Finally, Lionel Osmin produces a few curiosities, starting with a natural sweet wine made from Tannat and Malbec.

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 07/13/2025

Discover this refined, light, and smooth Marcillac, revealing a very fresh blood-red juice framed by frank tannins releasing a coulis of bright red and black fruits, enhanced by a few floral and zan notes. Sustained peppery finish. A relatively easy-drinking wine to enjoy with friends, whose liveliness can be appreciated with Basque-style chicken or marinated pork ribs grilled on the barbecue. Rating = 3.8
