“The label says it all, and it doesn’t disappoint. This Fer Servadou has all the makings of an easy-drinking, approachable wine, yet it doesn’t lack character. Adorned with a lovely garnet hue, it offers a superb, complex nose that reflects the harvest’s great maturity, with rich, indulgent aromas of candied black fruits and spices against a mineral backdrop. The palate is round, silky, and full-bodied, intensely aromatic as well. An expressive and devilishly charming wine.” (Le Guide Hachette 2025).

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2026 guide) 89/100
Rated estate (2025 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
With a committed, ethical, and responsible approach, Lionel Osmin founded this eponymous “haute couture” wine merchant with the aim of moving beyond appellations to better highlight the grape variety and offer a simple, enjoyable take on wine. Based in Pau, the company produces a diverse range of some thirty wines and crafts several Armagnacs. It handles the distribution of Clos Joliette, a jewel of the Jurançon region, and the wines of the Berthoumieu estate. The range, meticulously crafted by Damiens Sartori, the key figure in winemaking, offers exceptional wines at every price point.

About the estate:
The son of a jeweler from Béarn, Lionel Osmin became an agricultural engineer and, in 2010, founded a well-established wine merchant specializing in wines from the greater Southwest region, from Irouléguy to Bergerac and from Madiran to Marcillac. Oenologist Damiens Sartori oversees the winemaking process for this extensive range.
Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
Wine rated (2024 guide) 90/100 (Excellent wine)
About the wine:
The 2023 Fer de Soif reveals a slightly leafy bouquet with notes of blackcurrant, violet, licorice, spices, and blackberries. Moderately full-bodied and dense, it is round and rich, supported by structured tannins, and finishes with a long, slightly rustic yet elegantly leafy aftertaste. It is perfect with a rib of beef or a T-bone steak.

Selected Wineries (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the wineries listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)
About the estate:
While he is skilled at crafting wines from grapes sourced from elsewhere, it is with local grapes that Lionel Osmin truly excels, producing precise and refined terroir-driven wines. The Pau-based wine merchant and grower also offers a range of single-varietal wines: indigenous varieties, free of appellation constraints, such as Prunelard, Abouriou, and Mauzac… Finally, Lionel Osmin produces a few curiosities, starting with a naturally sweet wine made from Tannat and Malbec.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on July 13, 2025
Discover this refined, light, and smooth Marcillac, offering a bright red fruit flavor framed by crisp tannins that release a burst of vibrant red and black berries, complemented by hints of flowers and vanilla. A lingering peppery finish. A relatively easy-drinking wine for sharing, whose liveliness pairs well with Basque-style chicken or marinated pork ribs grilled on the BBQ. Rating = 3.8
