Rosette
The Rosette appellation, in the Bergerac region, is located within the territory originally defined in 1322 as the “Vinée de Bergerac.” It was granted AOC status by a decree dated March 12, 1946.
In the 1960s, the Rosette vineyard, which had previously fallen into disuse, was brought back into production. Today, the vineyard area eligible for the Rosette appellation is limited to 125 hectares. However, only 24 hectares are cultivated by 12 winegrowers.
The Rosette terroir is located northwest of Bergerac, on the sunny slopes of the right bank of the Dordogne River. The soil there is clay-gravel. To meet the appellation’s specifications, AOC Rosette wines must be made from the Sémillon, Sauvignon, and Muscadelle grape varieties.
