Alto Valle del Rio Negro

Frosts occur late in the season; the region enjoys warm days and cool nights, which promote a long ripening period and the production of fresh white wines and supple, ripe reds. The main grape varieties used for white wines are Pedro Ximénez, Torrontés, Sémillon, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc; for reds, Merlot, Malbec, Syrah, and Pinot Noir are planted. The wines owe their freshness more to the region’s southern location than to its altitude (300 meters).
