"Yalumba's flagship wine is crafted from Shiraz grapes sourced from vineyards across the Barossa and Eden valleys, with an average vine age of 80 years. Part of the wine is aged for 23 months in barrels and 30% new French oak casks, with the remainder aged in octaves, barrels, and one-year-old (or older) American oak casks. Deep purple in color with aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry, satsuma plum, and blueberry, enhanced by notes of baking spices, vanilla oak, cedar, licorice, dark chocolate, clove, and violet. The fruit sparkles on the palate, beautifully balanced and graceful in structure, with ripe tannins that melt into the wine and a shimmering acidity that provides rhythm and highlights the pristine fruit. This wine will age magnificently in the cellar, but my goodness, it’s already delicious to drink right now. Another epic Octavius vintage. ” (Halliday Wine Companion 2024)

Wine rated (2024 guide) 97/100

About the wine:

A fragrant nose with great aromatic complexity: enchanting and utterly captivating notes of red berries, cloves, vanilla, licorice, and wild herbs. It displays an inky density, beautiful fullness, and a rich texture, while retaining an incredible fruity purity. A lively, piercing acidity enriches the overall expression, with refined tannins that are nonetheless opulent and seductive. Clean and elegant, full-bodied, round, and enticing, with notes of licorice, cherry blossom, and strawberry throughout the tasting. Delicious.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 96+/100 (Extraordinary wine)

About the wine:

Aromas of coffee grounds, dark chocolate, blackberry compote, and black olive tapenade characterize this quintessentially Australian Shiraz. The powerful, bold aromas of wild berries are effusive, almost overwhelming, yet kept in check by the firm tannic structure. Woody spices—sandalwood, in particular—accentuate notes of black cherry and salty licorice. It’s truly good, satisfying, full-bodied, and delicious. 14.5% alcohol, sealed with a natural cork. 2023–2038
