Weingut Bründlmayer - Kamptaler Terrassen Grüner Veltliner 2014

Austria’s Finest Wines: As the owner of a 40-hectare vineyard, Willi Bründlmayer ranks among the region’s leading producers in terms of both scale and quality. A highly promising winemaker, he had to take over the family estate when his father fell ill. Here, a rich tradition meets a wine intellectual with an open mind toward innovation and practices that respect nature. Renowned worldwide for his great Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners, Bründlmayer also produces a fine Champagne-style wine (Pinot Noir and Chardonnay) and several red wines. The Käferberg Grüner Veltliner is always the most powerful and generous wine, while the Alte Reben (old vines) Grüner Veltliner offers greater depth and concentration. The Lamm Grüner Veltliner displays beautifully ripe fruit and a noble structure. The Heiligenstein Alte Reben Riesling, the Kamptal’s flagship wine, boasts wonderful concentration. Rounding out the lineup of Rieslings, the Heiligenstein Lyra displays a beautiful mineral density. Other notable wines include the lovely Chardonnay and the Vincent 2000 blend (Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zweigelt).

Wonderfully refreshing, lemony aromas promise an even more intense expression in the future. The palate is nicely rounded but already displays vibrant notes of pepper and aromatic herbs. A slightly riper hint of yellow plum tries to make its way through, but the spices and citrus zest remain dominant. The finish is truly long.
