Beaujolais-Leynes
The Beaujolais-Leynes AOC is a sub-appellation of the Beaujolais-Villages AOC, a regional appellation recognized since 1950. The latter was, in fact, the first appellation in France to use the term “villages.” Its vineyards cover approximately 6,200 hectares and encompass the 38 communes entitled to the Beaujolais-Villages appellation due to the unique characteristics of their terroir.

In the southern part of the Beaujolais vineyards, the soils are clay-limestone, dating from the Mesozoic era. Further north, the soils consist of alluvial deposits formed during the Tertiary and Quaternary periods. The only grape variety used is, of course, Gamay noir à jus blanc. The Beaujolais-Leynes appellation is located in the far north of Beaujolais.

Located in the immediate vicinity of the Roche de Solutré and the village of Fuissé, the commune of Leynes naturally benefits from unique characteristics that allow the red wines produced there to bear the Beaujolais-Leynes appellation. The Domaine de la Soufrandière offers a fine example of this appellation and allows one to discover all its qualities.
