The K Family is the story of a family—Marianne, Benoît, and, of course, the one-of-a-kind Jeanne—former Parisians who used to live at a breakneck pace but decided to leave that crazy city life behind to cultivate the Beaujolais region with passion and dedication. In 2016–2017, they took the time to plan their project. A quest for meaning and a return to their roots that began with their wedding in Saint-Amour, continued in Argentina and New Zealand during a long trip around the world, and finally ended in Morancé, in the heart of the Pierres Dorées region, with which they had fallen in love. It was therefore with great enthusiasm and purpose that the K Family took over a 12-hectare estate in 2018, putting their vision into practice: to help restore the reputation of Beaujolais wines without pretension, and to prove that good, well-made wine can be accessible to everyone. The K Family practices pesticide-free viticulture without any dogmatism—meaning no synthetic products, but rather high-performance technical equipment (such as a pneumatic press) and a small amount of sulfites, just enough to preserve the full flavor of the wines.

This family-owned estate is located in Morancé in the Beaujolais region, in the “Pays des Pierres Dorées.” It comprises 12 hectares of land in the process of converting to organic farming, with clay-limestone or clay-silt soils, planted with Gamay and Chardonnay—the appellation’s flagship grape varieties—as well as Pinot Gris and Gamaret.

The personalities of the K Family are reflected in the names of their vintages:

• L’Héritière, played by Jeanne, age 2½: a lovely, fresh, and tangy juice

• La Mère, Marianne: rich and fruity, but with a solid structure. It is the soul and the heart of the estate

• Benoit, the father, is the backbone of the estate, but his arms aren’t too muscular—so the wine can express itself

The K Family’s friends also include: Christian, the master tailor; Georges, the former winemaker who guides us without seeming to; and Jean-François, the Beaujolais connoisseur.
