"A complex array of aromas, rated 96 by James Suckling!"

“A truly astonishing wine for this challenging vintage, with a deep nose of violets, mandarin, and spices. The medium-bodied, highly concentrated palate is astonishingly intense. An explosive, stony minerality animates the extremely long finish, which is skillfully supported by very fine tannins. This wine is just beginning to reach the peak of its youth, but it has great aging potential. ” (James Suckling 2024) A word of advice: wait before opening it!

Selected Estates (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

Over the course of just a few vintages, the duo of Sébastien Dupré and Guillaume Goujon has established a confident and ambitious style. Longtime friends, they honed their skills under Frédéric Pourtalié at the Montcalmès estate for eight years, taking over from his cousin Vincent Guizard. After gaining some experience, they released their first vintage in 2015 with the iconic 6.3.1 cuvée, a blend from their vineyards (60% L’Héronde, 30% Le Pavé, 10% Brûlhier).

Review by Mr. MATHIEU W. Published on January 29, 2025

Beautiful deep ruby color. On the nose: red berries, crushed raspberries, earthiness, geranium, a hint of barn and linens. Complex and layered. On the palate, crisp red berries, those raspberries again, lovely acidity, and soft, fine-grained tannins that provide grip and tension. Juicy, crisp, fruity, earthy, spicy, full-bodied, full of character, and very compelling. Such a pure Gamay. Absolutely beautiful. A wine with aging potential through 2031/32. Score: 17+/20
