" Gem real Gem "

"The Gamay grapes, sourced from several plots located near the château (the Les Rochaux, Point du Jour, and La Madone vineyards), grow on terroirs composed of sand and granite-rich soil. As is customary at Loron, vinification was carried out using the submerged cap method, with a significant portion of whole grapes. The wine, which is at once fruity, fresh, full-bodied, and refined, is perfectly balanced. Silky, delicate tannins give it a crisp texture. The 2018 vintage also received the Favorite.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2021) What a success!

Wine noted (guide 2021) 2* Favorite (Remarkable wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

The Gamay grapes, sourced from several plots located near the château (the hamlets of Les Rochaux, Point du Jour, and La Madone), grow on terroirs composed of sand and granite-rich soil. As is customary at Loron, vinification was carried out using the submerged cap method, with a significant portion of whole grapes. The wine, which is at once fruity, fresh, full-bodied, and refined, is perfectly balanced. Silky, delicate tannins give it a crisp texture. The 2018 vintage also received the Favorite.

About the estate:

The origins of the house trace back to Jean Loron, a winemaker born in the Beaujolais region in 1711. His grandson, Jean-Marie, founded a wine shipping business in 1821. Now run by the 8th generation, this wine merchant also owns several estates, such as Château de la Pierre (Régnié, Brouilly), those in Fleurie and Bellevue (Morgon), the Domaine des Billards (Saint-Amour), and Domaine de la Vieille Église (Julienas).

Wine rated (2021 guide) 92/100

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Wine Enthusiast)

About the wine:

Made from grapes grown on vineyards owned by the Loron and Barbet families, this is a rich, full-bodied wine. It is beautifully aromatic and juicy, with flavors of blackberry and a lively acidity. Firm tannins beneath all this fruit promise good aging potential. Best enjoyed starting in 2022.

At 10.9, an exceptional quality-to-price ratio. (Tried as an appetizer and with raclette)

Opened the first bottle—what a disappointment; opened the second—same thing, Brettanomyces! Undrinkable—poured it down the drain

Nice fruitiness. Well-balanced, though it doesn't quite stand out.

A fresh wine, a Gamay with notes of red fruit and a pleasant fullness on the palate. Silky finish. The finest terroirs of Fleurie are expertly vinified and aged here.

A light Fleurie with a distinctly clear aromatic profile. Smooth on the palate, with notes of graphite and still-closed tannins. Is it too young? I share the same reservations expressed by Marc L., and I find the enthusiasm of W. E. and Hachette to be exaggerated, to say the least. Rating = 3.7. Enjoyed with oven-baked andouillette and old-fashioned mustard sauce.
