Fleurie
Fleurie is the third most important cru in the Beaujolais region, covering an area of 800 hectares. The decree recognizing the Fleurie appellation was issued on September 11, 1936.
The Fleurie appellation covers a cultivated area of approximately 870 hectares, with an annual production of around 45,000 hectoliters. The sole grape variety used is Gamay noir à jus blanc, with production dedicated exclusively to red wine. Fleurie wine is produced on an exclusively granitic subsoil that imparts finesse and charm to the wine.
The appellation comprises 13 distinct climats listed by the INAO, each representing a terroir that produces a distinct style of wine. From north to south within the Fleurie appellation, the following climats follow one another: Labourons, Poncié, Les Moriers, La Roilette, Les Garants, Montgenas, La Chapelle des Bois, La Cote, Le Bon Cru, and Champagne. Fleurie captivates with its velvety texture, elegance, and floral and fruity aromas of iris, violet, faded rose, peach, blackcurrant, and red berries. With its beautiful carmine color, it is often considered the most feminine of the Beaujolais crus. Perhaps this is due to the Madonna of Fleurie, who, perched atop her hill, watches over the vineyards. This femininity is particularly evident in the wines of Domaine de La Motte, Domaine Chignard, Domaine de La Madone, Domaine du Vissoux, and in the wines produced under the auspices of Maison Coquard.
