Jean-Paul et Charly Thévenet

Since 2007, Charly Thévenet, the last in the line, has been producing a Régnié appellation wine under his own name, called Grain et Granit. As at the family estate, where his father, Jean-Paul Thévenet, continues to promote "natural" wines, the Régnié vines are grown organically, without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. This remarkable wine-growing heritage—the oldest Gamay vines are 70 years old—features granitic terroirs with very little soil, meaning that the roots quickly reach the bedrock, which gives the wine its mineral character. The young winemaker harvests healthy, ripe grapes. In the cellar, vinification is carried out simply, using traditional carbonic fermentation with natural yeasts. Neither fined nor filtered, the wines receive only a minimal dose of sulfur. When young, the Beaujolais wines from the Charly Thévenet estate offer the characteristic fruity notes of Gamay; with age, they take on nuances of flowers and spices. These wines have very good aging potential.
