While Château Montfollet is often in the spotlight, it is with his Château Merigot that Dominique Raimond shines once again. A wine dominated largely by Merlot (95%, with Malbec as a complement), adorned with a sumptuous deep burgundy color, opening with aromas of ripe black berries, slightly candied red fruits, and sweet spices. The palate is perfectly balanced: full-bodied and voluminous, with a skillfully measured freshness that brings energy and length, and tannins that are both firm and refined. Perfect.

About the estate:

Dominique Raimond owns several châteaux in the Blayais and Bourgeais regions: Montfollet, one of the region’s leading estates, Haut Lalande, Graulet, Merigot, Haut Grela, and Puy d’Amour (13 hectares of organic vineyards). He is a member of the highly regarded Cars cooperative (founded in 1937), renamed “Châteaux solidaires” in 2011, which vinifies the harvests of about ten member châteaux—selected with great rigor—separately.

Really not great—no body, harsh on the palate. Where did the 3 Hachette stars and the "favorite" rating come from?
