About the estate:
In recent years, this small estate in the southern Médoc has established itself as a reliable choice. The wines here have shown unfailing consistency over the past few vintages. A distinctive feature is the vineyard’s heavy reliance on Petit Verdot, a grape variety that also gives rise to a unique cuvée. Offering excellent value for money, the wines produced here are a worthy addition to any wine lover’s collection.

Vinous
Wine rated (2022 guide) 90/100
About the wine:
Belle-Vue 2020 is a magnificent Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel. Notes of dark plum, gravel, clove, menthol, and licorice create a sense of intensity. This 2020 has punch, but it also offers excellent freshness to balance it all out. 2024–2036
James Suckling
Wine rated (2023 guide) 92/100
About the wine:
The nose features notes of blackcurrant and cherry, as well as hints of baking spices and gravel. The medium- to full-bodied palate is tightly structured with dense, chalky tannins that will need a little time to soften and fully integrate. The finish is mineral. Best enjoyed starting in 2025.
Yves Beck
Wine rated (2022 guide) 93/100
About the wine:
Belle-Vue lives up to the high standards set during the en primeur tasting. It offers a variety of nuances on both the nose and the palate. The bouquet reveals notes of wild berries and Sichuan pepper, complemented by a hint of tea leaves. Delicious and juicy, the wine features full-bodied tannins that provide a perfect foundation alongside its acidic structure. The wine still needs time to come together, but it’s clearly on the right track, and it’s a safe bet that this wine is far from having reached its full potential! 2026–2045
Vert de Vin
Wine rated (2023 guide) 93-94/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About the wine:
The wine has a deep ruby color. The nose is elegant, with subtle spicy and oaky notes, plenty of freshness, and concentrated fruit. It initially reveals a pronounced menthol note, followed by aromas of licorice, nutmeg, cloves, crushed coriander seeds, toasted vanilla, and chocolate. There are also rich, juicy fruit notes: wild strawberry, morello cherry, roasted red cherry, red currant jelly, fresh blackcurrant, blueberry, and wild plum, as well as a fragrant floral bouquet (violet, cornflower, lily) and a hint of roasted notes (toasted hazelnut). The palate is rich and enveloping, with a slight sweetness, while remaining fresh and refined. It expresses flavors of wild strawberry, creamy blackcurrant, roasted red cherry, fresh morello cherry, and raspberry coulis, as well as mint chocolate, licorice, clove, toasted vanilla, coriander seeds, violet, blueberry, and lily. There is also a subtle hint of blackcurrant leaf that adds a lovely freshness to the bouquet. The tannins are structured yet silky and savory. It has a crisp, lively acidity and a lingering, indulgent finish. A generous yet refined and elegant wine.

Here's a good, easy-to-drink Médoc with well-integrated tannins. I really enjoyed it with the stuffed pheasant that was roasted slowly.

Review and comment by Mr. GILLES D. Published on April 9, 2025
A Cru Bourgeois wine that reaffirms its status with a well-rounded 2020 vintage. Beautifully crafted, Belle-Vue offers a fine balance between the richness of its aromatic palette—featuring ripe black fruits accompanied by sweet spices and a subtle hint of oak—and the freshness of its lovely, dense, and structuring mineral backbone. The polished, velvety tannins enhance the lingering finish, which is generous with flavors. One of the appellation’s best value-for-money wines. Already approachable now, it offers a long drinking window for the next ten years. With such a profile—both powerful and elegant—this fine wine will be reserved for a family Easter meal featuring a traditional oven-roasted leg of Limousin lamb. Rating = 4.1.
