Cantemerle Castle
Château Cantemerle is located in the Haut-Médoc appellation, on the fine, deep gravel soils of the communes of Macau and Ludon, near Bordeaux. The vineyard of Château Cantemerle, a Grand Cru Classé, is influenced by a variety of factors, producing complex, balanced, and refined wines that reflect its exceptional terroir.

The soil at Château Cantemerle is siliceous gravel. This gravel, resulting from the ancient erosion of the Pyrenees by the Garonne River, is one of the key elements of a high-quality terroir. It consists of nutrient-poor soils; however, the vines must “suffer” in order to produce concentrated grapes. Furthermore, these sandy, pebble-rich soils are highly permeable and actively contribute to the ripening of the grapes, as they reflect the sun’s rays and retain the heat accumulated during the day throughout the night. The grape varieties planted across the 87 hectares of Château Cantemerle’s vineyard consist mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, supplemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Made primarily from young vines, Les Allées de Cantemerle is Château Cantemerle’s second wine, aged in the same manner as its elder.
