Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated 14.5/20 (Good wine)

Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About wine:

A vintage with finesse and elegance, unusual for this estate, which usually produces robust wines.

About the estate:

Patrice Pagès expertly manages the estate, which covers around 40 hectares of contiguous land with slightly clayey gravelly soil. The wines are generally austere and closed in their youth but gain elegance with age.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated wine (2014 guide) Cited (Successful wine)

Rated estate Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About wine:

As is often the case, this vintage offers a wine that needs to be cellared to absorb its still very present woodiness—the bouquet combines intense toasted and smoky notes with red and black fruits—and to "round out" its powerful, tannic palate. The significant presence of Cabernet grapes (47% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc) undoubtedly contributes to this robust and full-bodied profile. A bottle with character, to be aged for at least three to five years.

About the estate:

This vineyard, founded in the 18th century, took its current name in 1843, when Maître Dupré, a lawyer at the Bordeaux Court of Appeal, purchased the estate. Covering 43 hectares of beautiful Pyrenean gravel soil, it has been owned by the Pagès family since 1970.

Wine rated (2015 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About wine:

The 2010 vintage appears juicy and flavorful, a resounding success.

About the estate:

The Fourcas-Dupré vineyard is planted in a single block on a beautiful gravelly hilltop. The estate, very well managed by Patrice Pagès, now assisted by his brother Ghislain, produces a classic Listrac, firm, somewhat austere, sincere and impeccably frank in expression. Although the wines are slow to develop, they preserve their qualities over time and the prices remain reasonable. A new, more modern approach to winemaking is underway and the latest vintages are interesting.

About wine:

A firm, concentrated, and dry wine. At first, it reveals only its structure, then sweet and juicy plum comes through.
