"This excellent value wine shows really well. The fresh, fleshy wine is bursting with sweet, ripe blackcurrants, bright, crisp plums, and black cherries. Round, smooth, and polished, with lift and energy in the long finish. The brightness of ripe fruit reflects the density on the palate. The aromatic persistence and beautiful maturity of the tannins make this 2019 vintage a very indulgent wine.

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Patrice Pagès expertly manages the estate, which covers around 40 hectares of contiguous land with slightly clayey gravelly soil. The wines are generally austere and closed in their youth but gain elegance with age.

Decanter

Decanter

Wine rated (2020 guide) 91/100

About wine:

A little more austere than expected from the early tastings, but it has personality and is a discreet Listrac with lots of confident black fruit and bramble.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

This vineyard, founded in the 18th century, took its current name in 1843, when Maître Dupré, a lawyer at the Bordeaux Court of Appeal, purchased the estate. Covering 43 hectares of beautiful Pyrenean gravel soil, it has been owned by the Pagès family since 1970.

Rated estate Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About the estate:

The Fourcas-Dupré vineyard is planted in a single block on a beautiful gravelly hilltop. The estate, very well managed by Patrice Pagès, now assisted by his brother Ghislain, produces a classic Listrac, firm, somewhat austere, sincere and impeccably frank in expression. Although the wines are slow to develop, they preserve their qualities over time and the prices remain reasonable. A new, more modern approach to winemaking is underway and the latest vintages are interesting.

James Suckling

James Suckling

Wine rated (2021 guide) 90/100

About wine:

Fresh currants and berries on the nose. It is medium-bodied with supple, elegant tannins. Juicy and fresh.

Wine Green

Vert de Vin

Wine rated (2021 guide) 90/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)

About wine:

The nose is floral and intense. It reveals notes of violet, blackberry, and lilac, combined with hints of blackcurrant, wild strawberry, and touches of licorice, vanilla, toast, subtle hints of cubeb pepper, and an imperceptible hint of saltiness. The palate is fruity and offers minerality, freshness, a certain smoothness, and a tangy structure. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fresh/juicy raspberry, crisp cherry and, more subtly, violet and rose, combined with hints of racy minerality, lilac, cardamom, almond and a discreet hint of chocolate. The tannins are well integrated.
