Château des Cabans
Château de Cabans has been a family-owned estate since 1840 and was listed in the 7th edition of the Féret guide in 1898. Château de Cabans nearly disappeared after World War I, as its male heirs had fallen on the battlefields. Now owned by Mr. Jean-Marie Aberne and operated by SCA Philippe Bérard since March 2003, this estate expresses the finesse of every Médoc vintage.
Still considered one of the safest bets among Médoc wines produced under the Crus Bourgeois designation, Château de Cabans successfully made it into the new 2003 classification—despite the fact that more than half of the former Crus Bourgeois were removed due to a lack of reputation or consistent quality. Château de Cabans’ continued presence in this classification is in itself a testament to its quality, as it emerged even more impressive following a vertical tasting spanning five vintages. Proof of this is its first official tasting in *Le Point* magazine, which ranked it as a top-tier Bordeaux wine offering excellent value for money.
