Château Bernadotte
Château Bernadotte is now owned by the Louis Roederer Champagne House, managed by Frédéric Rouzaud, and is located on the western edge of the Pauillac appellation, close to the Grands Crus Classés and a few kilometers from Pichon in the commune of Saint-Sauveur.
Madame de Lencquesaing, owner of Pichon and former owner, was particularly interested in Château Bernadotte, firstly because her family had always enjoyed enthusiastically managing cru bourgeois wines. She was also attracted by the quality of the Château Bernadotte terroir, consisting of a beautiful plateau of gravel on clay, close to Pauillac and neighboring prestigious Pauillac classified growths.
In 1998, May-Eliane de Lencquesaing and her team undertook major investments at Château Bernadotte, not only in the vats and cellars but also in the vineyard (soil studies, replanting and replanting). New storage buildings were constructed. The property now has all the equipment necessary to produce a great AOC Haut-Médoc wine. The Château Bernadotte vineyard now covers 35 hectares grouped around the château. The soils are mainly gravelly-sandy and naturally well-drained, with a high clay content at depth, providing resistance to drought and moderate water stress during the grape ripening period.
