Château Bernadotte
Château Bernadotte is now owned by the Louis Roederer Champagne House, led by Frédéric Rouzaud, and is located on the western edge of the Pauillac appellation, near the Grands Crus Classés and a few kilometers from Pichon in the commune of Saint-Sauveur.
Madame de Lencquesaing, owner of Pichon and former owner of Château Bernadotte, was particularly interested in the estate, first and foremost because her family had always taken great enthusiasm in managing crus bourgeois. She was also drawn to the quality of Château Bernadotte’s terroir—a beautiful plateau of gravel over clay, close to Pauillac and neighboring prestigious Pauillac classified growths.
In 1998, May-Eliane de Lencquesaing and her team undertook significant investments at Château Bernadotte, not only in the fermentation tanks and cellars but also in the vineyard (soil analysis, interplanting, and replanting). New storage facilities were constructed. The estate is now equipped with everything necessary to produce a great AOC Haut-Médoc wine. Château Bernadotte’s vineyard now spans 35 hectares, clustered around the château. The soils are predominantly sandy-gravel, naturally well-drained, with a high clay content at depth, providing resistance to drought and moderate water stress during the grape ripening period.
