“Undoubtedly the greatest Clinet I have ever tasted. A dark, intense, beautiful color. A very aromatic, fruity, ripe, and subtle nose. Swirling the glass reveals it to be more intense, creamier, and deeper. Full-bodied on the attack, delicate on the palate yet rich in the mid-palate, with a velvety texture and plenty of flavor, the wine unfolds with a beautiful tannic structure that carries it along seamlessly. A long, deep, lively, and noble finish. It’s superb.” (Jean-Marc Quarin 2023)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2019 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the estate:
Dense, voluptuous, with silky tannins, Clinet is the quintessential great Pomerol from the plateau, consistently ranking among the appellation’s finest. Ronan Laborde has high hopes for the replanting of part of the vineyard. It must be said that the old, deep gravel soils, mixed with clay and iron-rich silt, located at the summit of the Pomerol plateau, are what make Clinet’s 11.27 hectares so unique. Here, we are at the heart of the appellation’s finest terroirs.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2018 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
Founded in the 14th century, this 11.26-hectare estate was already known as a château by the 17th century. Located in the heart of the Pomerol plateau, it features the clay-gravel terroir characteristic of the appellation. Its grape variety mix is less traditional: 12% Cabernet Sauvignon complements the traditional Merlot (85%) and Cabernet Franc. Owned by Georges Audy until 1985, then by GAN-Assurances until 1998, it now belongs to the Laborde family, which also owns vineyards in Tokaj and equipped it with an ultramodern underground cellar in 1999. Ronan Laborde has been at the helm since 2003.

It must be said that the estate boasts superb terroir, situated in the heart of the Pomerol plateau, on clay-gravel soils that lend the wine power and intensity. The château is also equipped with state-of-the-art winemaking facilities.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 98/100
About the wine:
This wine is characterized by its elegance, refinement, and silky textures. The aroma, with its notes of licorice, flowers, mint leaves, smoke, cherries, and plums, is what first draws you in. But it is the purity of the fruit, the sensual textures, and the opulent yet graceful sensation on the palate that truly steal the show. The fluid, uninterrupted finish balances freshness and hedonism with its multiple layers of lush fruit and chocolate, featuring a refreshing hint of spearmint on the finish. The finish truly lingers, which is a good thing, because you’ll never want this voluptuous spark to fade. Furthermore, even though the wine has an alcohol content of 15%, it shows no trace of heat or jammy notes. Best enjoyed between 2026 and 2055.
