"The greatest success of recent vintages - La RVF"

“The nose is marked by black cherry, licorice, flowers, and truffle. The wine is medium-bodied, with a lush, polished, silky, and fresh palate that perfectly complements its ripe, pure, and vibrant red fruit, as well as its spice notes. This wine has truly gained depth during its barrel aging. In fact, it rivals the older vintages from the 1940s and 1950s.” (Jeff Leve 2021) - Delivery in a wooden case is available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on the country and selected shipping method)

Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated 92–93/100

Rated estate (2020 guide): 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)

About the estate:

Jean-Marie Garde, president of the Pomerol winegrowers’ association, is also the owner of Clos René. This estate is situated on 12 hectares of sandy-clay soil, with iron-rich subsoil. Discreet and elegant, it always shows its best side with age, as the 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Malbec assert themselves and add complexity over the years. Though seemingly frail in its youth, Clos René evolves with distinction, and its tannins become sleek and refined. It’s a great find for lovers of fine wine. Cellar for at least ten years.

About the estate:

Jean-Marie Garde cultivates two adjacent vineyards in Pomerol, with similar terroirs and grape varieties (including a unique presence of Malbec): Clos René, a former family estate known in the 18th century as “Reney,” and Moulinet-Lasserre, supplemented by a vineyard in Lalande (La Mission).

Rated winery (2022 guide) Recommended

About the wine:

Clos René 2020 has developed into a powerful, well-structured wine, much more so than it was while in barrel. Notes of black cherry, plum, chocolate, leather, and licorice are all more pronounced. This powerful, deep Pomerol certainly needs time to mellow. 2025–2040

James Suckling

James Suckling

Wine rated (2023 guide) 93/100

About the wine:

Beautiful aromas of blackberry with hints of fresh mushrooms and wildflowers. Full-bodied with fine tannins that give the wine concentration and structure. It’s fresh and lively on the finish. Very refined structure here. Very typical. Try it after 2027.

Terre de Vins

Wine rated (2021 guide) 93/100

About the wine:

Beautiful, full-bodied fruit that’s direct and immediately appealing, ripe without being excessive, with well-integrated aging. The palate has good density and is full-bodied; the wine is easy to drink and features lovely bitter notes.

Anthocyanins - Yohan Castaing

Anthocyanes - Yohan Castaing

Wine rated (2021 guide) 93-95/100

About the wine:

A beautiful nose of graphite, licorice, with subtle smoky and fresh notes. On the palate, it is elegantly full-bodied, smooth, and well-balanced, with good volume and, above all, freshness. Very nice, structuring tannins without being firm. Great potential for a winery that is reaping the rewards of its efforts in previous years.
