Rated estate (2017 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Gazin is the largest of Pomerol’s top estates, with 24 hectares situated on the plateau’s clay-gravel soils. Nicolas de Bailliencourt consistently produces an excellent wine with a classic structure, free of any stylistic affectations, that ages beautifully. We find the most recent vintages particularly compelling, and Gazin stands out as a safe bet, with prices that have remained reasonable.

James Suckling

Wine rated (2026 guide) 96-97/100

About the wine:

A juicy texture with delicate tannins, featuring aromas and flavors of blackcurrant, raspberry, and bark. This is a medium-bodied, well-structured wine with a smooth finish, all perfectly balanced. Very refined and appealing.

Yves Beck

Yves Beck

Wine rated (2026 guide) 97-98/100

About the wine:

The depth and precision of Gazin’s bouquet are truly delightful! Refreshing notes of peony mingle with aromas of cherries, blueberries, and peppermint. The attack is velvety, giving way to a wine that combines vigor and freshness. Its smooth, perfectly integrated tannins offer appreciable power and harmonize with a crisp, structuring acidity. A savory, powerful wine that reveals itself gradually and boasts an infinitely long, refreshing finish. What elegance, vibrancy, definition, and joy! 2030–2055
