This beautiful blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc aged in oak opens with a beautiful intense purple color and offers flavors of cherry and plum, highlighted by a very nice acidity. The finish is supported by silky, elegant tannins and fresh fruitiness. A beautiful Pomerol with a freshness!

Rated estate (2021 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Édouard Labruyère (Domaine Jacques Prieur in Burgundy, JM Labruyère in Champagne and Beaujolais) has restored this beautiful vineyard in the north of the Pomerol plateau to its former glory. In 1868, the Féret guide considered Rouget to be one of the five best properties in the area. The latest vintages show steady progress and 2015 should hold some excellent surprises in store. Combining power and elegance, Rouget is becoming more precise in the structure of its tannins, with a mellow texture that sits well on the palate.

About the estate:

In 1992, the Labruyères, originally from Beaujolais (Moulin-à-Vent) and now owners in Burgundy (Jacques Prieur) and Champagne, acquired this estate, which has been renowned since the 18th century. They have elevated it to the ranks of the greats of Pomerol, thanks to wines of remarkable consistency, produced from 18 hectares of vines planted on a gentle slope on the Pomerol plateau.

Rated estate (2021 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About the estate:

Neighboring L'Église-Clinet, Rouget has made considerable progress since its acquisition by the Labruyère family. Édouard Labruyère, who is in charge of the estate, spares no effort in bringing the property to the heights of the appellation. The work, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, is very serious; the wine has a beautiful depth of flavor and an undeniable generosity. The château's pricing policy remains reasonable, making Rouget a great deal within the appellation, with a resolutely modern style that favors intensity of body and the voluptuousness of fruit that increasingly flirts with overripeness. This latter characteristic seems to us to dominate the latest vintages, to the detriment of the overall balance of the wines and the finesse of their expression. This is why we are today removing one star from the estate.
