“The nose is expressive and quintessentially Pomerol, with notes of lavender and violet, cedar and graphite, blueberry and bramble, as well as a delightful herbal note of thyme and rosemary. The progression of recent vintages has been exceptional, and this wine is the best to date (though we eagerly await the 2020). ” (Decanter 2022) - Delivery in a wooden case is available for orders of 12 bottles of this wine (depending on country and selected shipping method)

Rated estate (2020 guide) Mentioned (Successful wine)
About the estate:
Vincent Montigaud has been the estate manager since 2017, succeeding Bruno de Lambert, who retired. With 47.5 hectares, making it the largest estate in the appellation, Château de Sales has been owned by the de Lambert family for 550 years. The estate is currently headed by a member of the family, Marine Treppoz. Two wines are produced here: Château de Sales and Château Chantalouette, the second wine.

Rated wine (2020 guide) 91–93/100 (Excellent Wine)
Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
De Sales 2019 displays a deep garnet-purple color and effortlessly unfolds in the glass with impressively intense aromas of baked cherry, plum jam, and fruitcake, with hints of potpourri, licorice, a box of chocolates, and fragrant earth. The medium- to full-bodied palate is brimming with ripe, seductive black fruit, framed by round tannins and unwavering freshness, and concludes with a long, fragrant finish.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 92/100
Rated estate (2022 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)
About the wine:
The fruit’s freshness is very appealing; the structure is still firm, yet long and refined. This slender, classically balanced wine follows in the fine tradition of the château’s recent vintages.
About the estate:
On the outskirts of the town of Libourne, with its majestic park stretching out before it, Château de Sales has been in the same family for five centuries. Defying the vicissitudes of history and inheritance taxes—which have become confiscatory for many winemaking families—the appellation’s largest wine estate has never felt the need to join the bidding war, the race for roundness and opulence. With its specific terroir of fine gravel, Château de Sales remains faithful to a refined, classic, delicate style, minimally influenced by oak, which is undeniably back in vogue and deserves the full attention of wine lovers. While the stylistic direction seems firmly maintained, 2017 is a vintage of change for this historic estate: a new president of the operating company—which brings together many cousins—Marine Treppoz, and a new director, Vincent Montigaud from Libourne.

Wine Enthusiast
Wine rated (2022 guide) 93/100
About the wine:
This powerful wine, with layers of new oak and dense black fruit, is built for long-term aging. It comes from one of Pomerol’s greatest estates, which is less well-known than it deserves to be. This wine, which has great potential, is best enjoyed starting in 2026.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 93/100
Rated: Recommended
About the wine:
A blend of floral and earthy notes, with aromas of ripe black and blue fruits, as well as hints of licorice, walnut shell, and damp earth. Cigar box notes are also present. Medium-bodied, chewy, and persistent, it offers a lively and vibrant fruitiness. The finish is firm and flavorful, with notes of crushed stone. Very typical and true to its terroir. Best enjoyed after 2024.
