Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (2019 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the domain :

Excellent Saint-Estèphe, a fair expression of a great terroir, and still little known to many, which explains the reasonable, affordable prices.

Domaine noté (guide 2019) Awarded wines (Wines from this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the domain :

An authentic family estate, still inhabited by its owners, a rare occurrence. In the same family since 1922, Cos Labory is the home of Bernard Audoy, current president of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. The cru was united with Cos d'Estournel until 1810, when it was purchased by François Labory. With a relatively modest surface area for a Classified Growth (18 ha), its vineyards are divided into three main areas, one of which is crescent-shaped, to the west of the château. All are composed of gravel, but on more or less clayey bedrock.

Domaine noté Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Deep garnet-purple in color, Cos Labory 2016 opens with aromas of cassis, plums and herbs with notions of black soil and pencil lead. The medium-bodied palate is elegant and fresh, with fine tannins and lovely purity, and finishes long.

Domaine noté (guide 2019) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the wine:

Although still dissociated at this stage, it is very promising, with a great burst of fruit and irresistible gourmet balance. A bottle with a foreseeable future.

About the domain :

A discreet cru classé in Saint-Estèphe, Cos Labory is not lacking in assets. The Audoy family, who run it, produce a very classic wine, often a little austere in its youth, but aging elegantly afterwards. Far from today's modern canons, Cos Labory, which was separated from Cos d'Estournel during the French Revolution, has produced some interesting wines in recent vintages, at very reasonable prices.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

A classic Saint-Estèphe wine with a firm structure. The tannins, still a little hard with black fruit, will need time to soften. Good potential for a rich, fruity wine, to be waited for until 2024.
