Rated estate (2020 guide): 4 stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the estate:

One of the last family-owned estates still under direct management, this 1855 classified growth receives Basile Tesseron’s undivided attention. With expert guidance from Jean-Claude Berrouet, he draws out the best of his Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes to produce a flavorful, consistent wine that offers exceptional value for money within the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Impressive progress in 2020.

Rated estate (2023 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

This lovely Saint-Estèphe wine has just come under the ownership of businessman Jacky Lorenzetti, who already owns Châteaux Pédesclaux and Lilian Ladouys and is a co-owner of Issan. A dedicated team is in charge of taking this wine—which clearly has great potential—to even greater heights. It will be very interesting to follow its progress. The previous vintages, produced under the guidance of Basile Tesseron, are quite good and represent good value.

About the wine:

This wine comes from a standout estate. It is rich, with tannins softened by aromas of jammy blackberries and good acidity. Both structured and fruity, this wine will age well, maintaining its balance. Best enjoyed starting in 2026.

A stunning, expressive, and confident nose, with bold tobacco aromas. Wine rated (2022 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

A deep, intense, and beautiful color with purple hues. A very aromatic nose with ripe fruit notes. The wine reveals itself to be more intense, purer, and more refined when the glass is swirled. And that’s a good thing. Delicate on the palate at first, very aromatic in the mid-palate, with a smooth body and a refined texture, this wine scores even higher on the finish, where it ends with a long, complex, and powerful aftertaste, without any harsh tannins. It’s superb.

Wine Green

Vert de Vin

Wine rated (2021 guide) 94-95/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)

About the wine:

The nose is fruity, fresh, and elegant, with just the right balance, offering concentration and intensity. It reveals notes of vibrant blackcurrant and boysenberry, along with more subtle hints of wild red berries, combined with touches of violet and lily, as well as hints of refined minerality, rose, zingiber, and pepper. The palate is fruity and balanced, offering lovely juiciness, richness, a beautiful finesse of texture, complexity, depth, a refined fullness, smoothness, as well as a touch of concentration and power. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of vibrant wild blackberry, blackcurrant, and a hint of violet, combined with touches of vibrant raspberry, tonka bean, toast, vanilla, a subtle hint of nutmeg, and a very discreet hint of sweet tobacco and toast (in the background). Good length. A very subtle hint of chocolate on the finish.

Anthocyanes - Yohan Castaing

Wine rated 95/100

About the wine:

A fresh, minty nose with lovely floral notes and "al dente" black fruits, all wrapped in remarkable fruit intensity. Notes of iris and peony on the palate, with a powerful yet fresh and delicate structure. Crystal-clear and fresh. A truly beautiful wine that will surpass the 2016 vintage. Best enjoyed in 20 to 30 years.
