Château Branaire-Ducru
Château Branaire-Ducru is located in the center of the Médoc, in the commune of Saint-Julien, forty kilometers from Bordeaux, between Margaux and Pauillac. The fifty hectares of Château Branaire-Ducru vineyards are spread over several parcels, along an east-west axis, in the southern part of the appellation. The soils and subsoils of Château Branaire-Ducru are composed of gravelly-siliceous alluvium from the Quaternary period. These terroirs, considered to be the warmest in the region, enable perfect ripening of Cabernet-Sauvignon and later grape varieties such as Petit Verdot. Château Branaire-Ducru has a particularly old vineyard, with many plots around fifty years old, and some over a hundred years old.
The Grand Cru du Château Branaire-Ducru is made from these venerable vines, while Duluc, the second wine, comes from the estate's younger vines. The grape varieties are traditional. Cabernet-Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc dominate with 74% of the surface area, while Merlot accounts for 22% and Petit Verdot 4%.
