Clos du Marquis
Owned by the Delon family, the Clos du Marquis is a historic brand in the Médoc region Saint-Julien Founded in 1902, it originated from the "Petit
Clos" adjacent to Château Léoville, the residence of the
Marquis de Las Cases. Long considered the second wine of Léoville Las Cases, Clos du Marquis is now a cru in its own right. The vineyard comes from the
best terroirs in theSaint-Julien appellation which were not part of the cadastral records of the former Léoville estate.
These vineyards, physically separate from those of Las Cases,
are located slightly further west and are surrounded
by prestigious Second Growths. The Clos du Marquis
perfectly captures the distinctive character of the great Saint-Julien: structure, complexity, harmony, balance,
distinctiveness, and aging potential. Château Léoville Las
Cases thus comprises two distinct estates with
distinct terroir characteristics and consequently
produces two first wines with different flavors, despite
an obvious family resemblance.
