This Mercurey is very drinkable and reasonably priced. At first sip, it stands out for its refined, smooth texture and a delicate, airy profile, with tannins softened by extended aging. However, flavors of ripe, almost candied fruit quickly emerge, trying in vain to mask excessive notes of humus and undergrowth. Add to that a medium body, moderate fruit intensity, and a lack of acidity, and the overall impression leads me to believe that the wine is past its prime, with a soft and flat character. It’s therefore best to drink it without delay, perhaps paired with stuffed poultry.
