The Opus One estate was founded in 1978 by the renowned Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi, a celebrated winemaker from Napa Valley, an American wine region located in California, United States. The Opus One estate spans 68 hectares of vineyards, primarily planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, and complemented by plots of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Malbec—grape varieties typical of Bordeaux.
Constellation Brands Incorporation acquired Robert Mondavi Winery in 2004 while maintaining this partnership with Baron Philippe de Rothschild. In this pursuit of excellence, the grapes are harvested by hand and undergo meticulous sorting. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 18 months before bottling, then stored for an additional 15 months before release.
