Domaine Opus One
Opus One was founded in 1978 by the renowned Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi, a renowned winemaker from Napa Valley, a wine-growing region in California, USA. This unique alliance, combining a love of wine and the exceptional terroir of Oakville, heralded an exceptional future for the estate.
The Opus One estate covers 68 hectares of vineyards, mainly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented by plots of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Malbec, typical Bordeaux grape varieties.
Constellation Brands Incorporation acquired Robert Mondavi Winery in 2004, while continuing its partnership with Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Through this lasting and unchanging association, the founders' attachment to tradition andthe innovation of the new generations, Opus One has become the representative of exceptional Californian wines.
In this quest for excellence, the grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 18 months before bottling, then stored for a further 15 months before being released for sale.
