"An exceptional champagne, crystal clear and delicately refined."

"Pinot Noir (55%) and Chardonnay are blended in this organic cuvée from selected plots, aged for five years in the cellar. The vinification process (partial malolactic fermentation) and low dosage (extra-brut) contribute to the freshness of this mineral champagne with a lively, floral nose and tangy palate." (Le Guide Hachette 2025).

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2026 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Founded in 1846 in Épernay by the Devaux family, this house, located in a magnificent manor house in the heart of the Côte des Bar, has retained its family character. For nearly thirty years, it has been owned by Union Auboise (Alliance Champagne), a cooperative created in 1967. Within this group, Devaux represents the very best, with its outstanding Collection D (select parcels, reserve wines aged in large oak casks for a minimum of five years, seven years for magnums), whose wines are produced from 80 rigorously selected hectares. A wonderful source of enjoyable champagnes that never disappoint.

Rated estate (2025 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About wine:

Pinot Noir (55%) and Chardonnay are blended in this organic cuvée from selected plots, aged for five years in the cellar. The vinification process (partial malolactic fermentation) and low dosage (extra-brut) contribute to the freshness of this mineral champagne with a lively, floral nose and tangy palate.

About the estate:

In 1846, brothers Jules and Auguste Devaux founded a champagne house based in Épernay, which the last generation, having no heirs, sold in 1987 to Union Auboise, a large cooperative created in 1967. Under the Veuve Devaux (or Devaux) brand, the cellar "dresses" its top-of-the-range champagnes: champagnes aged for at least three years.

About the estate:

Devaux, formerly Veuve A. Devaux, is the brand name of the Union Auboise, a cooperative winery that brings together 800 winegrowers working 1,400 hectares of vineyards. Major Marne houses buy its base wines, but it vinifies a fifth of the grapes for its own brand. The "D" cuvées are particularly successful (with a minimum of five years in the cellar), as are the champagne cuvée and the red coteaux-champenois born of the partnership with Michel Chapoutier, the famous Rhône winegrower. Pinot Noir is the dominant grape in the blends, but Chardonnays from Montgueux and the Côte des Blancs also play an important role. The estate's manor house is open to the public for tours.
