"With 80% Meunier (the dominant grape variety in the region) and Pinot Noir as a supplement, this cuvée is a blanc de noirs. The nose promises a champagne with character: slight positive reduction, truffle, brioche, and quince notes. Toasted bread and smoky notes reveal themselves on the palate, which is quite lively, marked by a hint of bitterness on the finish." (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2023)

About wine:

The nose promises a champagne with character: slight positive reduction, truffle, brioche, and quince notes. Toasted bread and smoky notes reveal themselves on the palate, which is quite lively, marked by a hint of bitterness on the finish.

About the estate:

Trélou is located in the heart of the Marne Valley, near Dormans and upstream from Château-Thierry. Pierre-Louis Fleury was already a winegrower in this village in the mid-19th century. The Fleury-Gille brand was created in 1955. Bertrand set up as a winegrower and producer in 2000 and now works with his sister Christine on 8 hectares of vines.

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Wine rated (2021 guide) 15/20 (Very good)

Rated estate (2021 guide) Recommended (Recommended)

About wine:

The intense aroma features stewed white fruits, honeyed meadow flowers, sweet almonds, and exotic fruits. The palate is balanced, consistent, and smooth. The pleasure is immediate: the silky texture punctuated by consistent acidity imposes a bulbous volume of ripe vanilla fruits. Pairs well with scallops glazed with meat juice and coconut milk risotto.

About the estate:

Jean-François Fleury's family has been producing wine for several generations, starting with his ancestor Pierre-Louis Fleury, who was a winemaker in Trélou in 1842. This explains why he is so proud to be working with his children Christine and Bertrand today, continuing the family tradition in the Trélou region. This estate offers a wide range of champagnes and very good value for money. It is certified as an independent winemaker and, as such, only vinifies its own grapes and markets its own production. Tourists can enjoy high-quality tasting tours offered by the estate, as well as accommodation and champagne-themed workshops.

"Slightly positive reduction, truffle notes, brioche, quince"? I didn't detect any of that... A simple, pleasant champagne, very good as an aperitif.
