“With 80% Meunier (the region’s predominant grape variety) and a touch of Pinot Noir, this cuvée is a blanc de noirs. The nose hints at a champagne with character: a slight, pleasant reduction, along with notes of truffle, brioche, and quince. Toasted bread and smoky notes unfold on a fairly lively palate, marked on the finish by a hint of bitterness.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2023)

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2023) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Rated estate (2023 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the wine:

Made with 80% Meunier (the region’s predominant grape variety) and a touch of Pinot Noir, this cuvée is a “blanc de noirs.” The nose hints at a champagne with character: a slight, pleasant reduction, along with notes of truffle, brioche, and quince. Toasted bread and smoky notes emerge on a fairly lively palate, with a hint of bitterness on the finish.

About the estate:

Trélou is located in the heart of the Marne Valley, near Dormans and upstream from Château-Thierry. Pierre-Louis Fleury was already a winemaker in this village in the mid-19th century. The Fleury-Gille brand was founded in 1955. Bertrand, who became a grower-producer in 2000, cultivates 8 hectares of vineyards with his sister Christine.

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Wine rated (2021 guide) 15/20 (Very good)

Rated Estate (2021 Guide) Recommended (Recommended)

About the wine:

The intense aroma features stewed white fruits, honeyed meadow flowers, sweet almond, and exotic fruits. On the palate, it is balanced, smooth, and fluid. The pleasure is immediate: its silky texture, punctuated by well-integrated acidity, reveals a rich, full-bodied flavor of ripe, vanilla-infused fruit. Pairs beautifully with scallops glazed with meat jus and coconut milk risotto.

About the estate:

Jean-François Fleury’s family includes several generations of winemakers, starting with his ancestor Pierre-Louis Fleury, a winemaker in Trélou in 1842. This explains why he is so proud today to work alongside his children, Christine and Bertrand, carrying on the family tradition on the same Trélou vineyards. This estate—certified as an independent winemaker—offers a wide range of champagnes and excellent value for its wines; as such, it vinifies only its own grapes and markets its own production. Tourists can enjoy the estate’s high-quality tasting tours, as well as its guesthouse and champagne-themed workshops.

"A slight positive note, with hints of truffle, brioche, and quince"? I didn't detect any of that... A simple, pleasant Champagne—perfect as an aperitif.
