Rated estate (2025 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

The brand with the red ribbon, one of the most famous in the world, has been part of the Pernod-Ricard group since 2005. It offers a complete and delicious classic range, as well as a magnificent line dedicated to connoisseurs, RSRV, which features four exciting cuvées: the famous Mumm de Cramant, a Blanc de Blancs of dazzling finesse; its Pinot Noir counterpart, a Blanc de Noirs; an intense and distinguished rosé named Foujita; and a blend aged longer in the cellar. Added to this brilliant lineup is a remarkable interpretation of the legendary Lalou cuvée. All these wines are well worth rediscovering. Great houses are timeless, and Mumm is no exception. Numerous changes today allow it to commit even more fully to the path of excellence.

Rated estate (2025 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Like other major names in Champagne, the Mumm house has German origins; it was founded in 1827 by the three Mumm brothers—Jacobus, Gottlieb, and Philipp—sons of a Cologne wine merchant. Georges-Hermann Mumm, the founder’s grandson, gave the company his initials and launched the Cordon Rouge in 1875, a nod to the Legion of Honor. The business remained in the family until 1914: the war led to its seizure due to the German nationality of its owners. With its own 218-hectare vineyard, the company has been one of the Pernod-Ricard group’s flagship Champagne houses since 2005. Laurent Fresnet, its cellar master, carries on the house style, which emphasizes Pinot Noir.

Rated estate (2025 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

Champagne’s fourth-largest brand by volume is regaining consistency with the goal of increasing those volumes. It is not in the tradition of the Pernod-Ricard group, which has owned the brand since 2005, to play up the elitism of its brands. Mumm is moving upmarket without alienating the general public through its pricing strategy. The RSRV range, initially reserved for a “circle of friends” of the house, is now open to the public and showcases the best the house has to offer through various expressions: blanc de blancs, blancs de noirs, rosé, and now Cuvée Lalou. The Mumm house is being dropped from the guide this year: the entry-level wines do not measure up, and their top-tier cuvées fall far short of the mark.
