About the estate:
This small house based in Aÿ, led since 2004 by Francis Tribaut, a passionate native of Champagne, is the rising star of the region. It produces only Grand Cru champagnes—with the exception of the rosé, which is nonetheless a Premier Cru—and uses a low dosage. Naturally, the grapes come primarily from Aÿ, supplemented by Chardonnays from Avize and Cramant. The non-vintage bruts indicate on their labels the base vintage from which they are blended. This is a producer worth discovering, backed by its talented and experienced cellar master, Dominique Demarville. Great things are in store here.

About the estate:
The brand, which bears the family name, dates back to 1906. But it was in 1996 that René-James Lallier, the founder’s grandson, breathed new life into it, before it was acquired by his consulting oenologist, Francis Tribaut, in 2004. Its reputation has grown exponentially. The vineyard comprises 15 hectares planted exclusively with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the majority of which is classified as Grand Cru. It allows the estate to cover 40% of its supply needs and produce a total of 400,000 bottles per year. The wines are lightly sweetened, if at all. Following Campari’s acquisition of the company, Dominique Demarville was appointed general manager and head winemaker.

About the estate:
In 2019, the Italian spirits giant Campari acquired the 15-hectare vineyard of the estate founded in 1906 by René Lallier. Brilliantly revitalized by Francis Tribaut, who took the reins in 2004 before passing the torch to Dominique Demarville in 2021, Lallier has successfully evolved its wines and established itself in the world of French gastronomy. The two single-vineyard cuvées from Aÿ, Les Sous and Loridon, are undeniably the estate’s strong point, and the Ouvrage cuvée also showcases a wine of great depth and scope. The non-vintage bruts now need to step up their game, and the range needs to become more consistent.
