"The pure, unadulterated expression of the Vertus terroir".

“A very pretty nose, harmoniously combining ripe notes of dried apricot, mirabelle plum, and roasted hazelnuts with the juiciness of yellow peach and nectarine, and the roundness of dried fruits (mango, pineapple). With aeration, almost toasty notes appear, but without excess. The palate is very luscious, with a maturity transcended by incredible freshness and minerality. The texture is pure sweetness, light and caressing at the same time, with an endless finish that never tires the palate. A great champagne that can be enjoyed as an aperitif, with a meal, or as an after-dinner drink.” (Gault & Millau 2025). Bottle without capsule.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 92/100

Domaine rated (guide 2026) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the domain :

Pierre and Sophie Larmandier, accompanied by their son Arthur, have been cultivating 16 hectares biodynamically for over twenty years. Few wineries in any region can boast such consistency at this high level. The range is remarkably well maintained and reasonably priced. Among the estate's legendary cuvées, vieille vigne du levant is unquestionably a benchmark for the Côte des Blancs. The style boasts creamy textures in which balance is a central value. In this discreet elegance, we often find the finest the Côte des Blancs has to offer. A sought-after address.

Wine rated ( 2024 guide) 93/100 (Great wine)

About the wine:

The 2017 Terre de Vertus Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs, from two east-facing parcels in the same lieu-dit Les Barillers, located mid-slope, imparts a very mineral, almost crystalline character. This vineyard, which rarely produces powerful wines, even in the context of the 2017 vintage, has retained its personality, although it is a little more generous and slightly less concentrated than the 2016 vintage. Unfolding aromas of lemon zest, honeysuckle, and oyster shell in the glass, it is medium-bodied, elegant, and saline, and can be enjoyed before the release of last year's wine. It was disgorged in May 2023.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 92/100

Domaine rated (guide 2026) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the wine:

The Coteaux Champenois Vertus stands out as a great success: ample, generous, in perfect harmony with the vintage, without ever veering into exuberance.

About the domain :

Although his family hails from Cramant, Pierre Larmandier has settled in Vertus, where he vinifies parcels spread across the Côte des Blancs grands crus, in Cramant (sumptuous Cuvée Vieille Vigne du Levant), Chouilly, Oger and Avize. The result is a magnificent Les Chemins d'Avize since 2009. Stainless steel and barrels have given way to oak foudres, where vinification takes place without yeast. The range highlights the sustained work carried out in the vineyards (certified biodynamic).

Wine rated (2024 guide) 93/100

About the wine:

The 2017 Terre de Vertus 1er Cru Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs is creamy, open, and very seductive. Readers will discover a generous and sensual champagne that captivates from the first sip. Vinification and aging in oak barrels soften its contours. Aromas of dried pear, crushed flowers, mint, and chamomile develop beautifully over time. It's a fine result in a very challenging year. No dosage. Disgorged in May 2023.
