Bodega Mengoba
Bodegas y Viñedos Mengoba is owned by Gregory Pérez, a true wine enthusiast who began his career in 1998 at Château Cos d'Estounel. The estate’s vineyards span the terroirs of Espanillo, Valtuille, Villafranca del Bierzo, and Carracedo, in the heart of the Bierzo appellation in Spain.
The soils here are slatey, calcareous, and rocky, and benefit from a mountainous climate with Atlantic influences. Three traditional grape varieties of the appellation thrive here: Godello and Doña Blanca, which produce the estate’s white wine at Bodegas y Viñedos Mengoba, and Mencia, the grape used to make the Mengoba red. Soil cultivation is carried out using traditional, purely artisanal methods, with the help of two cows (Guinda and Jardinera), and the need for phytosanitary treatments is naturally minimized thanks to the climatic conditions (altitude, well-ventilated areas, well-drained soils, etc.). The two wines from Bodegas y Viñedos Mengoba are sure bets among Bierzo wines!
