Bodega Coto de Hayas
Bodega Coto de Hayas was founded in 1984 by a group of winemakers and is now led by Javier Vela. This brilliant and unassuming winemaker, who is madly in love with and passionate about Grenache, works tirelessly to maintain a fair and balanced approach to winemaking, with the utmost respect for the grapes, to ensure they arrive at the winery in optimal condition. He devotes the same care to Bodega Coto de Hayas’s simplest wines—in all three varieties—as he does to his great red Grenache wines.

He has elevated Bodega Coto de Hayas to an international level in about a decade, notably with his Fagus cuvée. Located in the northernmost part of the province of Zaragoza, around Fuendejalón and Magallón, the vineyards lie at an altitude of between 400 and 500 meters. The soils at Bodega Coto de Hayas are primarily clay and clay-iron.

The primary grape variety is Red Grenache, but the estate also grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, Syrah, Chardonnay, and Muscat. The winemaking process is carried out with the utmost care to best preserve all the delicate qualities of the fruit. The winery also produces two excellent naturally sweet wines: a red made from Grenache and a white made from Muscat. The great wines of Bodega Coto de Hayas are distinctive, refined, subtle, and elegant—the result of an optimal harmony between the terroir and exceptional winemaking.
