Catalonia
Catalonia is a designation of origin from the autonomous region of Catalonia, Spain. It is the region’s historic designation, covering approximately 330 municipalities and bordering ten other designations, including the famous DO Cava. The DO Catalonia, like other appellations, permits a very wide range of grape varieties, including some indigenous ones.

The region of Catalonia, with its highly varied terrain, enjoys a Mediterranean climate; however, significant regional differences allow for the production of wines with very distinct characteristics.

The DO Cataluna produces red and white wines. DO Cataluna red wines are often made from Grenache, Monastrell, and Syrah grapes, as well as Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The white wines are primarily made from White Grenache, Muscadelle, Maccabeu, and sometimes Chardonnay. DO Cataluna wines are generally fruity and well-balanced, and are very characteristic of their terroir.
