After studying oenology in Bordeaux, Alvaro Palacios founded his winery in 1989 in Gratallops, in the heart of Priorat, a region that was then little known due to its harsh terrain.

The dynamismof Alvaro Palacios, the son of a winemaker, has made his wines—and Priorat itself—famous thanks to numerous awards. His L'Ermita Velles Vinyes is, in fact, one of the five most expensive wines in Spain.
