Terrerazo
Terrerazo is a designation given to a very limited production area in the municipality of Utiel, in the province of Valencia, Spain. It was granted DOP status in September 2010, which is roughly equivalent to the former French designation of Vin de Pays. A rare phenomenon, but one already known in France, the appellation actually covers only the 89 hectares of vineyards belonging to Bodegas Mustiguillo.
Located about 100 kilometers from the sea, the Terrerazo appellation enjoys a Mediterranean climate, despite being located in one of the coolest regions of Spain. The vineyard is rooted in a sandy-clay limestone crust.
Thanks to the specific characteristics of the Bodegas Mustiguillo terroir, the wines offer a variety of aromas resulting from the diversity of the blends. Mestizaje is made from the appellation's typical grape variety, Bobal, along with Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Shiraz. This youngest vintage from Bodegas Mustiguillo is complemented by its older counterparts: Finca Terrerazo and the very rare Quincha Corral. Alongside these red wines, the estate offers a magnificent white wine made from the Merseguera grape variety: Finca Calvestra.
