La Dame de Malt
The Dame de Malt farm is located on the banks of the Rhône and Isère rivers. Following in the footsteps of the multi-generational family farm, the EARL de l'Abbaye was established in March 1991. The farm primarily grows grains (wheat, barley, corn, rapeseed, sunflowers), and since April 2012, part of the operation has been certified organic. By 2018, the entire production will be converted.
Dame de Malt was founded in late 2012. The beers are brewed using recipes developed by Philippe Vacher. Depending on the beer, 60 to 100% of the malt used comes from barley grown on the farm, which is malted by a young cooperative malting plant in the Ardèche region called “Malters Échos.” The “specialty” malts that give the different recipes their distinct color nuances come from a Belgian supplier, and most of the hops are from Alsace.
To launch Dame de Malt, the beers were brewed by La Soyeuse Brewery. Since September 2016, Dame de Malt beers have been produced entirely at the Villette d’Anthon farm in L’Abbaye (38).
