Golden in color and topped with a beautiful velvety head, this lovely lager offers a subtle balance between a hint of bitterness and sweet smoothness. Full-bodied and fruity, with aromas of malt and slightly smoky grains, the finish ends on a touch of bitterness that lingers on the palate. A craft lager with a strong personality that will appeal to beer enthusiasts.

About the estate:

Sommepy-Tahure, in the Argonne region—France’s leading producer of grains and malt—is the birthplace of Jean-Bernard Guyot. He settled in a farmhouse typical of the region, where a brewery had existed since 1859. This brewer and farmer is a passionate advocate for the rural and historical heritage in which he operates: his Valmy beers, a national symbol of the Republic. The project he has long envisioned is taking shape: building a self-sufficient brewery. Already equipped with solar panels, a biomass boiler, a wastewater treatment plant, and a well, he has established agroforestry plantations on the farm, cultivates his own yeast cultures, and has even begun making beer-aged cheese. Year after year, he is turning his dreams into reality.

I find that this beer’s qualities are best appreciated as part of a meal rather than as a refreshing drink on its own. Although it has a moderate alcohol content (6%), this beer is quite full-bodied and dense.
