di Sardegna
Di Sardegna includes, in particular, the Cannonau di Sardegna and Vermentino di Sardegna appellations.
The Cannonau (Grenache) di Sardegna appellation spans 260 km, from Sulcis and Cagliari (south) to Gallura (north), and has existed since 1972. Production under this appellation accounts for approximately 20% of Sardinian wines. This appellation includes red, rosé, reserve, and fortified wines. Reserve wines must have a minimum alcohol content of 13% and have been aged for at least two years before release. Sweet dessert wines have an alcohol content between 17.5% and 20%. Wines from this appellation are rich in anthocyanins and polyphenols, and have attracted consumer attention in recent years: these compounds are rich in antioxidants and thus beneficial for heart health.
The Vermentino di Sardegna appellation (which may also be known as Vermentino di Gallura) covers the entire island of Sardinia and includes white wines made from at least 95% Vermentino, which are complex and well-balanced. There are several types of wines under this appellation: Superiore, sparkling, Passito, and Vendange Tardive.
