Rosso Piceno
Although Rosso Piceno has a long history, the Rosso Piceno appellation was initially recognized as a DOC (denominazione di origine controllata) in 1965. The Rosso Piceno DOC is recognized only for wines produced in the regions of Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Macareta, and Ancona. The latter city is the capital of the province of Marche, located in central Italy.

As its name suggests, Rosso Piceno is exclusively a red wine made from a blend of two indigenous grape varieties: Montepulciano and Sangiovese. The Rosso Piceno production area covers almost the entire Marche region. Benefiting from the warm influence of the Adriatic Sea and the protection of the nearby mountains, the Rosso Piceno terroir offers ideal conditions for growing these two grape varieties.

This harmony between the Rosso Piceno terroir and the grape varieties produces wines of very high quality. The character of each Rosso Piceno wine can also be nuanced by the addition of another authorized grape variety. The excellence of the Rosso Piceno appellation can be found in many of the wines produced by local winegrowers, notably the Boccadigabbia estate.
