Rosso Piceno
Although the history of Rosso Piceno dates back centuries, the Rosso Piceno appellation was first granted DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) status in 1965. The Rosso Piceno DOC is reserved exclusively for wines produced in the regions of Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Macerata, and Ancona. The latter city is the capital of the Marche region, located in central Italy.

As its name suggests, Rosso Piceno is exclusively a red wine made from a blend of two indigenous grape varieties: Montepulciano and Sangiovese. The Rosso Piceno production area covers almost the entire Marche region. Benefiting from the warm influence of the Adriatic Sea and the protection of the nearby mountains, the terroir of Rosso Piceno offers ideal conditions for growing these two grape varieties.

This harmony between the Rosso Piceno terroir and the grape varieties results in wines of exceptional quality. The character of each Rosso Piceno wine can also be nuanced by the addition of another authorized grape variety. The excellence of the Rosso Piceno appellation is evident in many of the wines offered by local winemakers, particularly those from Domaine Boccadigabbia.
