Anglès Castle
From the Médoc to the Languedoc... Éric Fabre, former technical director at Château Lafite-Rothschild, and his wife Christine Fabre, both from families of winemakers, embarked on a meticulous search for a great terroir in the Languedoc. In 2001, in Saint-Pierre-la-Mer, on the La Clape terroir, they acquired and restructured the 45-hectare vineyard of Château d’Anglès. This work focused in particular on rebalancing the traditional grape varieties: Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan for the red wines; Bourboulenc, Grenache, Roussanne, and Marsanne for the white wines. Today, Vianney Fabre, their son, carries on the Fabre family’s winemaking legacy by joining Château d’Anglès in 2010 to oversee international sales.
The Fabre family was right—the La Clape terroir was granted AOC status in 2015, becoming the first municipal appellation in the Languedoc.
