Anglès Castle
From the Médoc to the Languedoc... Éric Fabre, former technical director of Château Lafite-Rothschild, and his wife Christine Fabre, both from families of winemakers, embarked on a meticulous search for a great terroir in the Languedoc. In 2001, in Saint-Pierre-la-Mer, on the La Clape terroir, they acquired and restructured the 45-hectare vineyard of Château d’Anglès. This work focused in particular on rebalancing the traditional grape varieties: Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan for the red wines; and Bourboulenc, Grenache, Roussanne, and Marsanne for the white wines. Today, their son, Vianney Fabre, carries on the Fabre family’s winemaking legacy, having joined Château d’Anglès in 2010 to oversee international sales.
The Fabre family’s vision proved correct: the La Clape terroir was granted AOC status in 2015, becoming the first municipal appellation in the Languedoc region.
