Wines of Languedoc
Our private wine sales website offers a wide selection of Languedoc wines at the best prices

Wines from the Languedoc region first gained recognition as early as the 6th century B.C. under Greek rule. The Romans later organized the region and introduced their technical expertise. The Languedoc wine industry benefited from the region’s economic boom following the construction of the Canal du Midi in the 17th century and the arrival of the railroads in the 19th century. In 1907, a major revolt broke out among Languedoc winegrowers due to overproduction of wine. It wasn’t until 1970 that the entire industry restructured itself and began producing Languedoc wines of consistent quality.

The Languedoc region is diverse and home to many grape varieties. These include Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault, as well as lesser-known varieties such as Cot, Malbec, Chenin, and Rolle.

The Languedoc wine region covers a large part of southwestern France: it spans the departments of Aude, Gard, Hérault, and Pyrénées-Orientales. Stretching from Nîmes to the south of Narbonne, the vineyards extend all the way to the foothills of the Massif Central. The region is so diverse that some parts of the wine-growing area benefit from the mild climate of the Mediterranean coast, while others are subject to the harsh conditions of the mountainous climate. The Languedoc wine region is home to many renowned appellations, including Pic Saint-Loup, Faugères, Saint-Chinian, Corbières, Minervois, and Coteaux du Languedoc.

When it comes to wine appellations, feel free to ask about: Picpoul de Pinet, Terrasses du Larzac, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, Sable de Camargue, Pays d'Oc, and Fitou.
