“While best known for its Bourgueils, the estate presents this Chinon—and what a Chinon it is! The ruby color is intense, though not as intense as the nose, which releases a deep bouquet blending very ripe fruit with sweet spices. The fruit, with blackcurrant leading the way, comes into its own on a lively, full-bodied palate supported by silky, well-integrated tannins. Robust and generous, the jury really liked it. About the estate:

Owned by the Meslet, Thouet, and Rouzier families, this estate—founded in 1913 and known for its consistently high quality—spans 33 hectares, comprising 45 plots and three appellations: Chinon, Bourgueil, and Saint-Nicolas. It has been managed by Germain Meslet since 2012.

A very good Chinon made in the traditional style—that is, designed for aging. This 2023, tasted in August 2026, is already very pleasant after being decanted (lots of fruity notes but with character), and I suspect it will be even better in 2028–2030.
