Brossay Castle
The Château de Brossay, in Cléré-sur-Layon, stands south of the Loire River in the Deux-Sèvres department. Steeped in history, the building dates back to the 15th century and the vineyard was created in 1919 by Alexis Deffois.
It is on this gravelly clay soil on schist, located on the southern slope between Cléré-sur-Layon and Passavant-sous-Layon, that the fourth generation of winegrowers, represented by Nicolas Tamboise and Benjamin Grandsart, are taking up the torch.

The Château de Brossay vineyard now covers 45 hectares, with the vines cultivated using sustainable methods certified HVE (High Environmental Value). The white wines of Château de Brossay are made from Sauvignon, Chenin, and Chardonnay grapes, while the red wines are made from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grolleau, and Gamay grapes. The Coteaux du Layon, stars of the region, and great sweet wines, are made possible by the microclimate of this region, characterized by mild winters, hot summers, and low rainfall.
