Wine rated (2026 guide) 93/100

Rated estate (2027 guide): 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

As for the whites, the 2023 vintage is supple, just like the Effraie, with an exciting stony character.

About the estate:

In the mid-1990s, Éric and Christine Nicolas were the first to rekindle the faded flame of the wines of the Sarthe. Their wines demonstrate the immense potential of these understated terroirs: elite biodynamic viticulture and natural yet meticulous winemaking. The Coteaux-du-Loir “Vieilles Vignes Éparses” perfectly illustrates the elegantly austere character of these wines, which develop an extraordinary saline quality after a few years. “Calligramme,” made from vines over 70 years old, ranges from dry to off-dry depending on the vintage—a masterpiece that every lover of great Loire whites must have in their cellar. The reds from Pineau d’Aunis rank among the finest. Clément Nicolas, the son of Christine and Éric, took over the reins in 2021, alongside his wife Laure-Anne. Long live Bellivière!
